During this period, human rights organisations, political institutions and public figures around the world intensify discussions on the abolition of the death penalty, support those affected and advocate for a more humane justice system.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The hearings, organised at the initiative of <\/span><strong><span>Mikita Semianenka<\/span><\/strong><span> from the <\/span><strong><span>Latushka Coalition and For Freedom Movement<\/span><\/strong><span> faction, will enable the Coordination Council to contribute to this discussion in a timely manner, raise international awareness of the situation in Belarus and formulate its own position based on expert analysis.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span>Invited experts:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-spread=\"false\">\n<li><strong><span>Andrei Paluda<\/span><\/strong><span>, coordinator of the campaign &#8220;Human Rights Defenders Against the Death Penalty in Belarus&#8221;.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><\/span><strong><span>Valiantsin Stefanovic<\/span><\/strong><span>, human rights defender at Viasna, former Vice-President of the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), and expert of the campaign &#8220;Human Rights Defenders Against the Death Penalty in Belarus&#8221;.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span>Following the hearings, a vote will be held on the draft resolution <\/span><strong><span>&#8220;On the Unconditional and Immediate Abolition of the Death Penalty in Belarus&#8221;<\/span><\/strong><span>, initiated by the Latushka Coalition and For Freedom Movement faction.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>World Day Against the Death Penalty is observed annually on 10 October.
