Today, the headquarters of Viktor Babariko<\/strong> launched an open appeal to call on the Investigative Committee, the General Prosecutor\u2019s Office, the Supreme Court, and the Administration of the President of Belarus to make the trial of members of the Presidium of the CC Maria Kalesnikava<\/strong> and Maxim Znak<\/strong> open.<\/span><\/p>\n

– An open trial is an opportunity to show publicly that Maxim and Maria\u2019s actions do not constitute a crime. We are confident that if the trial is fair, they will be clearly acquitted, as stated in the address to the authorities. We demand an open trial of Maria Kalesnikava and Maxim Znak – the truth is not to be hidden.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

The letter has already been signed by well-known Belarusians, including Svetlana Alexievich, Nadezhda Ostapchuk, Vladimir Tsesler, Aleksandra Herasimenia, Elena Levchenko, Olga Kovalkova, Pavel Latushko, Sergei Chaly, Margarita Levchuk, Natalia Dulina, Andrei Kureichik.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The trial of Maria and Maxim is scheduled to begin on August 4<\/strong>. If it will be closed, it meant that neither independent media nor other citizens would be able to attend. <\/span>Why keep the trial closed when there is allegedly enough evidence against Maria and Maxim? Why keep the trial closed when Maria and Maxim\u2019s conviction is based on their public statements?<\/span><\/p>\n
