International organizations, human rights defenders, and lawyers from other countries of the world supported Belarus and continued to use legal mechanisms to defend human rights in Belarus.<\/span><\/p>\n

Russian lawyers<\/strong> demand an end to the persecution of Belarusian colleagues for their professional activities and offer lawyers, judges, prosecutors, and all members of the legal profession to join the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights<\/strong> and the Commissioners of the International Commission of Jurists<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The International Committee for the Investigation of Torture<\/strong> in Belarus had prepared a third interim report<\/a> on the use of torture and ill-treatment of women. At the time of writing, 143 women victims of torture and other acts of violence were interviewed.<\/span><\/p>\n

The report of the United Nations High Commissioner<\/strong> for Human Rights on the situation in Belarus was submitted to the Human Rights Council<\/strong> last week. The report was based on information previously provided by Belarusian human rights defenders. Michel Bachelet, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, expressed her willingness to cooperate with the authorities of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to promote changes that were considered important for building a just, peaceful and sustainable path for the country. The report noted numerous cases of persecution of citizens on political grounds, the failure of law enforcement agencies to respond adequately to complaints from victims, and violations of basic human rights.<\/span><\/p>\n

International support is an important part of peaceful protest. The solidarity of human rights<\/strong> defenders from various countries demonstrated that Belarus was on the right path to building a State based on the rule of law.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
